Nesting co-parenting (a.k.a. bird nesting) is experiencing a groundswell as more and more parents realize that the old “broken-home” model of separation and divorce isn’t what they want for their families. Nesting essentially means providing consistency for the children by keeping them in one home with regular access to both parents. The specifics of how this is done can be as unique as each family. For example:
  • each parent takes regular turns moving in and out to take care of the children
  • one parent is always in the home, but the other comes in and takes over parenting duties on a regular basis
  • the parents continue to share the home, staying in separate bedrooms or even adding on the home to create extra space
